Abstract

A new Al-Ag/ZnO nano-photocatalyst has been synthesized by doping technique for degradation of Reactive Blue 19 (RB19) under UV irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of the fabricated nanocatalyst has been investigated in a newly invented multi-layered cylindrical reactor. The synthesized Al-Ag/ZnO has much more photocatalytic activity as compared to the ZnO and Ag/ZnO at similar operating conditions. It is found that the photocatalytic degradation using the synthesized nano-photocatalyst follows pseudo first order kinetic model. The electrical energy consumption using the synthesized nano-photocatalyst in this work is much lower than those of the other process alternatives.
